Enigma 101 — May 10, 2007 |
|
I disremember who the sage was that stated, “Tis no more just that the world impose its will upon one man than one man imposes his will upon the world,” or something like that. I’m a better hand at recalling profundities than the manufacturer, but not by much. Anyways, I’ve followed Dr. Randy Mohundron’s columns in which he strove manfully to convince us taxpayers that a new school facility can easily be had for our town of choice. He flat footed fielded the queries of the congregation and offered his position in the De Leon Free Press. As near as I can tell he was working to inform and gain the converts to pull off the coup of a once in a lifetime opportunity for the community. His success or failure at persuading our populace will be bared for all the world to see on May 12th when the last vote is tallied. Now, he did not stoop to telling us that he has an ace in the hole during this entire presentation, so it is my duty to present my opinion as a raving reporter. As added incentive to his proposal I submit that one dire possibility may loom in the peaceful appearing sea we are cruising. At present Comanche County boasts four separate scholar fashioning factories, but the state-wide practice of putting Mom and Pop educational facilities into a conglomerate location like the City of Weatherford, or a mimic of the Wal-Mart Super Centers, is a common occurrence. A bunching up of Sidney, Gustine, De Leon and Comanche pupils might be a good idea, but it’s a bitter pill to swallow when the stark realization that the Sidney’s Eagles, Gustines’ Tigers, De Leon’s Bearcats and the Comanche Indians sports teams would lose all their individual identities and the jocks and aficionados of equal but separate, would be solely disappointed in seeing their school history and their mascot on the brink of demise. Now, that there is worthy of fretting about. In the “worst dream” scenario, can you picture a central county facility strategically positioned in Comanche County? I can! The location would logically be just west and across Highway 16 from Comanche County Hospital, if diplomacy and tact are properly added to the possible eventuality of the bond issues failure to make muster. The most burning question would then be the choice of an acceptable name for the County Sports Team. It don’t require a MIT graduate to figger out where the votes to choose that revered position are situated. Now then, turn out and vote your conscience. As they used to say over in France, “Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point.” Let me hear from you.
